LandTorn is a publisher and distributor of Web3 games, and the first gaming hub built on Coinbase’s Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain, Base.
In this report we’ll be going over:
- Their first onchain game, Lorak
- $SHARD
- Mythics and TornLords
- Their future ecosystem token, $TORN
- Thoughts and opinions.
Introduction
LandTorn is a gaming hub built on Base. Starting off with their own games and allowing other projects and communities to enter the Torn ecosystem in the future. Torn is the gaming studio behind LandTorn that will utilize NFTs, native tokens, and already have a plethora of games in the pipeline.
The first one to launch is an idle game called Lorak.
Lorak
LandTorn have soft-launched their first game, Lorak, on August 16th, essentially for beta testing for bugs and taking in feedback. Lorak is an idle game where you mint a Settler NFT and send it through different dungeons to earn $SHARD and different spoils (loot).
Lorak utilizes ERC-6551 NFTs. ERC-6551’s allow them to store NFTs inside of one NFT. To put it into simpler words, when minting a Settler + satchel, you’re minting a character that has all spoils and $SHARD earned from dungeons stored inside of it. In order to claim the $SHARD stored with your Settler, you must find a Ritual Stone through running through the dungeons. Ritual Stones allow you to sacrifice your settler (burn your NFT + spoils) in return for the $SHARD you’ve found from the dungeons.
This essentially gives your NFT value based off rarity, spoils linked to your Settler, and the price of $SHARD. For instance, if your Settler has accumulated 1,000 $SHARD, and $SHARD is $0.05, your Settler NFT should be valued at $50. The spoils it holds - weapons, Mythics, Ritual Stones, wearables - will also add to the value of your Settler.
The twist is, your Settler can die inside of these dungeons, burning your NFT and all of the spoils along with it. I recommend reading their docs and trying the game to understand how it works, but here is a brief explanation.
$SHARD
$SHARD is the in-game currency for Lorak, think of what $SLP is to $AXS (Axie Infinity).
$SHARD use cases:
- Use SHARDs to enchant your settler, allowing for more dungeon runs.
- Your Settler starts with 20 Energy which allows for 20 dungeon runs. Your energy restores every 12 hours, allowing for another 20 runs. If you’d like to do more runs you can use SHARD to enchant your Settler and gain more energy.
- Burn SHARDs if Settlers die in the dungeons.
- Earn SHARDs through dungeons.
- You must sacrifice your Settler using a Ritual Stone in order to claim your SHARDs into $SHARD.
Mythics and TornLords
From their docs:
Mythics can be found in deeper Dungeons. You will need to collect a specific set of Mythics to be able to mint a TornLord.
During the first Cataclysm, two houses of TornLords will rise. The Paladin and Iron Fist. More details TBA.
Preview of the first TornLord - Iron Fist.
There isn’t much info on TornLords, other than they have a limited supply of 2,000 TornLords in the first phase with a max of 8,000 (not confirmed), and are rare. In order to get a TornLord, you’ll need to find a set of Mythics in the dungeons that will allow you to upgrade your Settler into a TornLord.
TornLords are said to be the end game in Lorak. Who will be the first to gather the Mythics and become a TornLord?
$TORN
$TORN will be the LandTorn ecosystem token, expected to launch early next year.
From the FAQ in their Discord:
Games published on LandTorn will be utilizing $TORN and participating in the larger meta-game, DAO and economy modules. Powering LandTorn with 3rd-party titles and our own Studio and IP - TORN.
The best way to get your hands on $TORN when it launches is by participating in Lorak, minting Settlers and future NFTs, and holding $SHARD. There is also speculation that TornLord holders will receive $TORN allocations!
Thoughts and opinions..
LandTorn is the first Base-native project that I’m drawn to and interested in taking and holding positions in. Another project/ecosystem that they remind me of is TreasureDAO & $MAGIC.
LandTorn is already featured on the official Base website and differentiates from the other games in the ecosystem by aiming to become the gaming hub of Base. The most important thing for LandTorn to do is to create successful games that are not only lucrative as a play-2-earn game (because we all know crypto/Web3 games never gain traction unless they’re lucrative), but more importantly, fun and intriguing.
Fun and intriguing games will allow them to build a strong and dedicated community. From there, the community will take LandTorn to the next level. The LandTorn team will focus on delivering games that can carry the ship, then allow other projects to join their ecosystem, furthering community growth and more games utilizing $TORN.
I personally will be holding $SHARD, playing Lorak, and participating in the community as I see a lot of potential here. Especially if GameFi makes a comeback (it will). The goal is to stack $SHARD and TornLords going into the $TORN launch.
